1. Think about exactly how you were injured while it is still fresh in your mind.
2. Report the injury to your employer in writing.
3. Give an accurate and thorough description of what happened.
4. Get complete contact information from all witnesses. (Three years from now, you might not be able to locate “Bob.”)
5. Get medical care from a doctor you choose (and preferably one covered by your health insurance just in case the claim is denied).
6. Detail everything that happened for the doctor, including everything that hurts.
7. Be honest about prior injuries.
8. Take pictures of any evidence of injury, such as bruises, scratches, bumps, or swelling.
9. Follow all restrictions from your doctor, whether you are at work or not.(Assume that someone will be doing video surveillance of you at some point.)
10. Call a worker’s compensation attorney.
